Thanet (Broadstairs, Margate, Ramsgate and surrounding areas)
We’re looking for volunteer advisers to join our friendly Thanet team. Download and submit our application form. Closing date: 31 October.
Volunteers make up around 75% of our workforce. We wouldn’t be able to provide such a vital free advice service without them.
Our volunteers are friendly and approachable, open-minded and non-judgemental. They range from young to retired, university students, part-time workers and jobseekers.
There are a number of volunteer roles including advisers, receptionists, administrators, campaigners, fundraisers and trustees. Find out more about the roles and take our two minute quiz to find out which area of volunteering you might be interested in.
We require a commitment of at least one day a week. We interview all prospective volunteers and include an IT assessment as part of the selection process, as IT competence is such a crucial part of our work. Full training is provided and travel expenses are reimbursed.
Why Volunteer?
People volunteer at Citizens Advice North East Kent for many different reasons.
In the last year we’ve recruited volunteers to train as advisers, receptionists and administration support.
Here are some of the reasons our volunteers have given as to why they chose to join us:
To make a difference
It can be incredibly rewarding to help our community. Some of our advisers were previously clients who were impressed by the service they received and wanted to be able to do the same for others.
To boost their confidence
Volunteering is a great way to gain confidence. Our training enables volunteers to increase their skills in a supportive environment. Many of our volunteers have been out of the workplace for a number of years and have said how their experience has been invaluable when attending interviews for paid work.
To meet new people
Volunteering is a great way to make new friends. We’ve often had volunteers who recently moved into the area, and by working as part of a team have quickly made new friends.
To improve their prospects
Volunteering for Citizens Advice improves employability and a high proportion of our volunteers who leave us go on to paid work. Our Law students find that volunteering increases their chances of gaining a training contract as well as invaluable experience of dealing with client enquiries.
Training
Our trainee advisers undertake a self study training programme while at the same time gaining hands-on experience at our drop-in sessions, as well as participating in further training courses.
